My name is Patricia Border, I am a student at Cleveland Community College. In 2011, I was hit by a car that was distracted from the road. It made me realize how dangerous our highways are. I am constantly seeing people driving while talking on the phones, some even text while driving, even eating is distractive to the driver.
On Wednesday of last week, the State Troopers in Smithfield NC started a crack down on distractive drivers. They have been collecting data on distractive driving since 2004, and found that 57,984 are involved in distractive driving accidents every year in NC. Last year 13,000 were in accidents, and 119 died.
Texting while driving has become common for accidents. Lives has been loss because of texting. A car averages about 5000 pounds and we have become careless on our highways just by being distracted.
There is more than one type of distractive driving. There is also driving while eatng and driving while on the phone.
